COMPANY

Our client performs conformity assessment and risk management services to clients.
 
The company’s Industry Division is comprised of several business units totaling $50M in revenue.  The Pressure Vessel Inspection unit provides ASME and Jurisdictional Inspections, a Field Services Inspections unit of the Power, Utilities, Oil & Gas group provides shop & field inspection to the O&G Industry, a Transportation & Infrastructure Unit provides similar services to Departments of Transportation and a Technical Center offers plan review and consulting services to the Industrial marketplace.

The Power Utilities, Oil & Gas division within the Industry group is expected to produce $12M in revenues in 2010 and is a strategic area of focus for the organization.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager of Business Development reports to the Chief Operating Officer or his designee and will have responsibility for generating and or leading business development activities for the Industrial Power Market.    

The successful candidate for this position is responsible for developing the Power and Utility business within the company’s North American business unit.  While the primary focus is fossil plant related, this business unit also includes wind, solar and hydroelectric power generation assets. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

    Work with the Industry COO and Field Services VP to target prospective clients
    Evaluate technical, strategic and commercial opportunities with above targets.
    In conjunction with other Executives, review contract implications and risks, development of estimates, target pricing and preparation of proposals. Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
    Contribute to strategy review and implementation.
    Prepare presentations and articulate service offering in a professional manner. 
    Prepare technical proposals and consultation plans. 
    Prepare activity and other such reports as may be required by Industry group management and administrative personnel and/or company policy.

Quantitative criteria for performance evaluation:

    Revenues/sales
    Profitability of Projects won
    Achievement of year over year growth targets
    Achievement of cross selling targets


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Employees at this level typically have experience in an engineering, quality or mechanical fabrication processes for a major supplier to the fossil power industry
    Knowledge of pressure retaining items such as boilers, steam and water piping, basic mechanical apparatus/equipment theory and operation,
    Proven business development skills with emphasis on inspection, quality control or NDE services.  
    Knowledge of power and utilities industry. Ability to identify client needs and develop winning solutions that position the company as the market leader for fossil power quality assurance and testing services.
    Knowledge of regulatory environment related to the power generation industry.
    A proven track record in promoting engineering and quality assurance services
    Specific understanding of fossil, renewables, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass and solar facilities is desired. Experience with transmission facilities is also desirable.
    3 or more years selling to key decision makers in the Industrial Power or Industrial Market
    Must have worked in an environment with a structured sales process including lead generation, sales forecasting activities and performance goals.
    Understanding of client procurement process of equipment and services related to P & U.
    Communication - Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, excellent presentation skills, able to communicate at all levels with both internal and external executives
    Leadership - Ability to gain alignment and enthusiasm achieving superior performance
    Teamwork - Ability to interface and effectively work with various groups and cultures involved (partners, government, agencies, contractors, operations, etc.).
    Ability to travel 50 - 70% of the time
