Our client is a leading supplier of commercial and industrial lubricants, fuels, equipment and related services and serves thousands of customers in the fleet, construction, industrial, mining, quick-lubes, automobile dealerships and retailing industries.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the President and supervises the fuel department which includes fuel managers, fuel drivers, fuel dispatcher and fuel sales representative(s).
SCOPE
The successful candidate will ensure quality products are bought at a competitive price and available for loading in a six state area. This individual has the responsibility for executing and expanding the strategic vision of fuel sources through identification, analysis and selection of multiple procurement and distribution options.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
This position is responsible for the purchase and sale of diesel fuels, gasoline and other fuels. The successful candidate must perform the following:
• Evaluate and select fuel good and transportation service providers to achieve lowest total cost;
• Monitor fuel levels and report needs or excesses and conducts market analysis to identify fluctuations in cost and availability of fuel sources;
• Develop and manage high quality contracts for fuel goods and transportation services that include:
Competitive pricing structures that are aligned with and effectively support our business needs;
Meeting our legal terms and conditions that minimize risk;
Providing necessary environmental, health and safety requirements;
Monitoring changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends and future market;
Developing and managing sound and effective strategic procurement plans that maximize and optimize value to our customers.
• Creates value improvement by:
Building and maintaining supplier alliances;
Negotiating complex fuel goods and transportation services contract pricing and implementing cost savings ideas;
Facilitating new technology introduction opportunities;
Encouraging lean process improvements in client/supplier team processes and redesign efforts.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will be a degreed professional with a minimum of five years experience in fuel procurement, as well as knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures within the fuel industry, including markets and trading practices. This person should have prior experience and knowledge working with and maintaining relationships with vendors. Also knowledge of retail operations is preferred.
This individual must be literate in Microsoft Windows and general word processing abilities, and be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills with the ability to write time sensitive reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, as well as, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
The finalist must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, prices, profit margins, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume, and be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. This person must possess strong analytical skills; the ability to negotiate contracts and purchase agreements and demonstrate the ability to deploy technical skills to accomplish work tasks.
In summary, the successful candidate must be a proven leader and professional in the fuel industry who possesses the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
